Emperor Zhang Aiguo desires all of Mars, putting Dallas Gordon and Prospector Base in his crosshairs.
China maintains a stranglehold on rare earth elements, choking off the supply needed by Western manufacturing. US company EPSILON Corporation has established Prospector Base on Mars to mine these minerals and return them to Earth.
Within China’s military, General Zhang Aiguo amassed tremendous power, desiring to overthrow the government and install himself as Emperor. To stymie EPSILON, Zhang secretly sent a military expedition to Mars to destroy the nascent mining operation.
Can Dallas Gordon fend off Zhang’s surprise attack to preserve Prospector Base and the lives within it?

Brian H Roberts writing draws deeply on his lifelong loves of science/technology and adventure sports. The EPSILON Sci-Fi Thrillers is Brian’s first series. Here’s Brian’s website.
Red Dragon, the second book in the Epsilon sci-fi Thriller trilogy. I thoroughly enjoyed Brian H Roberts’ characters. The continuing adventures of Epsilon’s Team One, led by Captain Dallas Gordon. (Flash to his friends.)
The crew has an even closer vibe after all they’ve been through together in Crimson Lucre. The humour is subtle, from Gordon’s historic callsign to Ladonna Patience, the doctor that has no patience.
Before the escapade really gets going the story catches you up from book one. This is more than sufficient for someone that hasn’t read the first book.
Personally, I’d say don’t miss that first story – Crimson Lucre. It’s great.
Then Dave goes missing as the first Chinese base becomes operational. Is this coincidence?
Yes! The thrill-ride begins. So have your cuppa and popcorn to hand and buckle into your comfiest chair – it’s going to be a late night.
The Earth-side Control Team led by Ann Waters, Flight Operations Director has a new threat to deal with – China. Combined with this, Control has a new CIA analyst assigned to help with the continued investigations following their findings from Crimson Lucre that Pang returned to his homeland in China and his hacking cell.
While the US and Chinese crisis is heightening on Earth and on Mars Epsilon’s Team Two are landing. Soon the combined teams are embroiled in the Chinese plot to take over Mars by the new Emperor.
It’s really tempting to guess what will happen next, throughout, but expect the unexpected!
Fast paced just like book one, Roberts has you believing you are on Mars with Epsilon, rooting along with them that your teammates will survive.
Protopian series – No matter what goes wrong the Epsilon crew, first on Mars, work based on cooperation and value each other over profit regardless of their employer, as their decision making shows. There’s a lightheartedness to their banter that shows it’s all in the way you choose to see things even in the face of extreme adversity.
Loved it! Another big story. It gets **** 4 starts from me. I can’t wait to read what’s in store for these characters in book 3.
