A thrill ride from the beginning!

The race to develop a super-intelligent AI is on. And the country who wins will dominate the globe.

A breathtaking thriller ripped from tomorrow’s headlines. From the NY Times bestselling author whose books have sold almost three million copies.

When America’s program to create a super-intelligent AI is sabotaged, US operative Cameron Carr begins a frantic hunt for the culprit, with the fate of humanity hanging in the balance. In the right hands, such an AI could lift civilization to towering heights. But in the wrong hands, this technology could represent the greatest threat humanity has ever seen . . .

Infinity Born is a scientifically accurate roller-coaster ride of a thriller. One that explores the deadly perils and mind-blowing possibilities that await the human race–including both extinction and immortality.

As our phones and computers become ever smarter, Infinity Born takes an unblinking look at a technological tipping point that is just around the corner. One that will have a profound impact on the future course of human history.

“Richards is a worthy successor to Michael Crichton.” (SF Book dot com)

Book Review Time

Infinity Born near future, thriller was easily devoured. The story has multiple plot lines, a large cast of players, creating a web of intrigue to piece together.

“Richards is an extraordinary writer,” (Dean Koontz)

Cameron Carr’s investigation monitors the Russians who have also experienced such a sabotage of their budding super-intelligent AI. Finding the Russian operatives in the US, he works out who they’re targeting and gets their first. Things don’t go as planned, but he’s on the right path.

The whole story revolves around the Jordon family. The father is a rich inventor. After the opening of the novel, only he and his daughter remain. His wife and two sons are murdered – by him. He kills himself and his daughter Melissa goes into a protection program due to the sudden populous hatred of the Jordon family due to a kinetic weapon strike on Turlock, USA. The story is about super-intelligent AI computers making the step to a self aware intelligence and examines the nature of consciousness and its replication. There are many twists and turns, so hopefully I haven’t given too much away here. There’s just the right amount of tech without over labouring the explanations about it. That’s a thing in the more realistic hard sci-fi stories that can mean you have to jump pages – but not here!

He can “keep you turning the pages all night long.” (Douglas Preston)

It might be hard sci-fi but the characters are totally relatable. The subject matter is extremely interesting and the yarn is enjoyable. Even when the storylines converge it all twists up and unravels yet again. Totally inventive. Loved it. I’m off to find another story by Douglas E. Richards.

I’m definitely going to check out his website’s newsletter too. Back to the novel. I loved the last chapter about what was and was not real tech in this story.

A very entertaining and interesting story that is for anyone that likes tech, loves working out what happens next, and enjoys a little romance thrown in for good measure.

Audio performance

Cameron Carr’s voice portrays him as a US Agent, narrated by Corey Gagne. He does a great job with making each character distinguishable from another given this is a major cast of characters. Reilly’s voice is clearly feminine and consistent and yet isn’t a high pitched performance, just a natural sounding one. That’s important and isn’t always the case for narrators. Overall, the story telling had a lot of unique situations to convey including a new super-intelligent AI consciousness having a thinking conversation with Jordon. A conversation essentially with himself. It was most enjoyable and he was able to bring humour, sincerity, sadness, and mischief into the telling as appropriate.
Inching toward a protopian society of self restriction and extremely thought provoking.

Takes place on Earth and is about the threat, advanced technology can be, if we don’t take huge precautions and then double that.

The main character, Cameron Carr has a reputation as a badass, yet Reilly takes him down in the first stages of his investigation. We find out what he learns and how he has some soul searching of his own to do for his future.
