This is the second novella in the trilogy, Chaotic Orbits. A fast-paced series of sexy space heists combined with a murder mystery. I’d recommend reading book one first, to understand Ada and Ryan’s stormy love-hate approach to life and the galaxy. Each story it’s getting harder to tell who is on the right side. I found this a refreshing break from the stuffiness lots of sci-fi stories have, especially in the way women are portrayed. However, it’s totally in the space opera genre rather than truly scientific. Still it’s in our universe, if far in the future, and the theme is Earth’s eco system. Worth a read over a good cup of tea. I just wish the stories in this trilogy were longer!
Sparks fly when Ada and Rian just so happen to find themselves at the same charity gala—but there’s something rotten behind the sparkling gowns and dazzling wealth on display.
This heist-turned-rom-com from New York Times bestselling author Beth Revis is perfect for fans of sexy, romantic science fiction and fans of Martha Wells and Becky Chambers.
Ada had no intention whatsoever to continue working for the rebel group that hired her to retrieve the government’s plans for a nanobot climate cleaner if they weren’t willing to pay her for it, but then they offer a different perk: an undercover mission to a charity gala where Rian will be in attendance. Rian, meanwhile, has volunteered his services for the gala believing that the rare items up for auction will attract Ada’s eye. Hoping to catch her in the act and pin her with a punishable crime, Rian has no idea that Ada’s real mission is to convince him to join the rebels. And the rebels have no idea that Ada’s decided that kidnapping Rian is the most efficient means to an end.
How to Steal the Galaxy continues the sexy, rip-roaring good time that Beth Revis began in Full Speed to a Crash Landing, with the return of Ada, Rian, and all the tension, twists, and turns that made the first novella so much fun.
Written in 1st person. Super short read.
Ada is at a Gala on one of her paid missions. Ryan is in charge of security at the museum on Rygel, where the rich and famous of the universe live. The Gala is to help Earth’s environmental recovery.
I just don’t get the title!
The life saving nanite technology isn’t what everyone thinks, because the trillionaire despot who takes credit for his employees’ inventions has a nefarious plan.
Can Ada find a way in this crowded Gala to throw a hammer in the trillionaire’s plan. Ryan’s protecting the trillionaire guest speaker and is trying to fathom what in the museum she wants to steal? Working this out brings him closer to Ada in her irresistible gown, heels and red lipstick.
Ada loves bating him but she’s on a job and that comes first. Will Ryan workout what she’s up to and stop whatever heinous plan she has? And why is it he can’t stop thinking about her and that red lipstick?
Can she win him over to her side? You’ll have to read the story to find out. Be assured Ryan understands more than she thinks.
This is a fresh take on sci-fi. There’s chemistry between Ada and Ryan and a few more kisses than in book one. I enjoyed working out her angle. And I didn’t see the outcome at all. Beautifully written, but far too short. That said, anyone that likes low heat, playful, romantic tension, this is for you BUT in space. It will keep you guessing until the end. A short but powerful read. Truly coffee break material.

The performance is 4 hours 2 minutes. Rosenberg and Bendena did a great job of capturing the energy between Ada and Ryan. I do suggest listening to book one, first so that the chemistry and history makes sense. ***** Informal & lighthearted
NEXT MONTH… Ed’s Pick (RHS) I’m going to end the year on a near-future Cli-fi novella that’s been really well received.
