Pretty sure everyone, myself included, expected a continuance from book one in some way. Not so. Still, once over that observation the story is solid, if shorter. Not difficult when you consider book one was an incredible 32 hours and 29 minutes long. This more modest or normal length novel is definitely worth the audiobook credit and the print book has awesome images that aid understanding of this new fantastic Fractalverse.
July 25, 2234: The crew of the Adamura discovers the anomaly.
On the seemingly uninhabited planet Talos VII: a circular pit, fifty kilometers wide.
Its curve not of nature, but design.
Now, a small team must land and journey on foot across the surface to learn who built the hole and why.
But they all carry the burdens of lives carved out on disparate colonies in the cruel cold of space.
For some, the mission is the dream of a lifetime, for others a risk not worth taking, and for one it is a desperate attempt to find meaning in an uncaring universe.
Each step they take toward the mysterious abyss is more punishing than the last.
And the ghosts of their past follow.
This is the journey to the edge of self.
The mission is about researching an advanced phenomenon found in space. The project team consists of a small group of people all running away from their pasts to discover the meaning of this mysterious dark hole.
EAT THE PATH
The point of view’s character fails to prevent contamination because of a continuous stream of dire circumstances that befall them. A lot of the time you, the reader/listener, are inside his head.
Given his losses, will he choose to survive and move on?
The task undertaken has a near-future feel, given the portrayal of how difficult it is to get even the smallest task done suited up and given the endurance needed for long spacewalks on low gravity planetary surfaces.
An enjoyable story but don’t expect it to be anything like book one. This story is another phenomenon in the fractal universe with no characters from the previous book. Think of Fractal Noise as a wonderful standalone or another piece of the Fractalverse puzzle that we hope will make sense as the series unfolds and draws us in.
What else will we discover in book three about this unique and challenging series?
I can’t wait to find out. *** Story **** Overall

The performance is 9 hours 57 minutes.
I loved the narration by Jennifer Hale. ***** Enjoyed!
